The statue was part of the Recovered Memories exhibition, held in New Orleans and Washington in 2018. It was erected at its present site on 28 June 2019, by the Spanish ambassador, Mr. Santiago Cabanas and the Chief Executive of Avangrid, Mr. James P. Torgerson.
It is a gift from the Iberdrola Collection to the Spain-USA Foundation.
The statue, by Salvador Amaya, now stands outside the Spanish Embassy in Washington DC (2375 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. Washington DC, 20037). It was cast in bronze in 2015, and is 80 cm high.
