On 19 October 2023, Iberdrola unveiled an installation describing Spain’s aid for the campaign and battle of Yorktown. For this campaign, the French fleet and Washington's Continental Army received Spanish money delivered in Havana (Cuba) in 1781 by Francisco de Saavedra, the King of Spain’s special envoy to America.
The installation comprises an interpretive panel, an authentic “piece of eight” coin and a replica of a restored Spanish Army flag from the reign of Charles III, all sponsored by Iberdrola. The unveiling ceremony, held inside the Battlefield Visitor Center run by the National Park Service, was attended by the Spanish Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Santiago Cabanas and the superintendent of the Yorktown Battlefield Park. A special show was put on by the Fixed Regiment of Louisiana, a historical reenactment group, dressed in period costumes.
