Iberdrola attends events to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown

Members of Iberdrola's Unveiling Memories project and local Avangrid representatives attended and coordinated Spain’s contribution to the events marking the anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown (Virginia) in 1781.

Spain’s key role in the battle had never before been recognized. Contacts and research work carried out by Iberdrola as part of the Unveiling Memories project in the historic area of Yorktown culminated in a visit by the Spanish ambassador, Santiago Cabanas, who represented Spain for the first time at the annual commemorative events, held this year on 19 October 2023.

A living history reenactment group, with members hailing from several states, also took part in the commemoration, bringing to life the Fixed Regiment of Louisiana, dressed in period Spanish costumes.

It so happens that much of the money provided by Spain to support the Yorktown campaign in 1781 was raised by collections among the inhabitants of Spanish Crown territories in America, the ancestors of many of the more than 60 million Hispanics living in the United States today.
